#KampalaParentsSchool kids "having fun"
This photo is making rounds on social media. Who posted it?
Does it matter? Does anyone care? A lot can be said about how immoral our
society has become and how doomed we are. Let's just be real, this is what we
have created, this is what we have decided to make "cool". Many (esp.
parents) will be quick to defend the kids and say they don’t know what they are
doing....huh...joke's on you. Today it’s easy to get what you want as long as
you cry about it and make it a big deal. I know many parents that have bought
their children gadgets they themselves don’t even know how to operate. These
are some of the reasons why our new generation is going to rot one by one. As long a kid
has the latest gadget on the market and doesn't know what it took to get it…they will obviously take photos like these and upload them on their
social media. I have bought my son a few gadgets but before i do so he has to wash the car with
me just so he can earn them. Many of us parents are suffering and working our
heads off day and night just to give our families the best but it doesn't make sense to buy your child a present without your presence.
When i was younger, i remember crying and telling my mom i
wanted a new watch (sounds silly) but everyone i called a friend in class had a
new watch, i certainly felt i should have the same thing everyone had but thank
God i had a mother that was open minded about my life and actually had time for
me. She told me i could have the watch if only i passed my science exam that
week with just a 60% average score...it seemed easy to do considering i wasn't
doing terrible but i won't lie. I made sure i did all i could to get that
watch, if it meant waking up before everyone to read or finish a project so
that i would be ahead of them...i did everything and got my 75%. I was very
excited to run home and show my mother, i held the paper like my whole life
depended on it. When i got home my mom was in the kitchen...jumping in
excitement. She told me to go take a shower, wash my uniform and come show her
my exam results. I was very angry...but its mummy...i slowly walked away and
did all she told me to do, grabbed my paper and as i got to the living
room...she had made me my favorite meal and a soda (big deal in my days). She
handed me my watch and told me to eat my food and wash the dishes later...i
told her "but mummy you haven’t read the paper, i passed" she looked
at me smiling and told me whether i had passed or not she was always going to
buy me a watch as long as i understood the fact that everyone works hard to get
what they need in life.
My story might sound “Jim Jam’’ to many but such moments
always ring in my head and till today i know better considering am a father. My
appeal to all parents...is be very keen on what your child is doing at school
or home...it's useless to buy your child the finest things in life when he
doesn't have the slightest idea how you got them or why…
With the increase of pornography on every media platform
available, such facts have only created new statistics like these ….900,000
unplanned pregnancies in Uganda every year, almost 400,000 go for abortion, 60%
of those are below 19 and 1500 of them die every year. What are you doing about
it? Be there before you pay for your absence in your child's life.
